2. Recorded in a Los Angeles studio in March , it's the only CD release I'm aware of that features Chaloff in a quartet setting throughout. The audio quality is excellent, in contrast to releases of his earlier work, many of which draw from live performances and radio air checks/5(18).

4. Then dig the follow-up--a somewhat trite tune ("Thanks for the Memories") that Chaloff transforms into a multi-textured, fascinating ballad opus. The last tune, "How About You," was not even included on the original LP, yet it's as soulful and deeply felt as anything on this recording, easily the definitive instrumental version of this standard/5(18).

5. As a soloist he set a standard that Carney hadn't (been able to). Chaloff might easily be playing alto or tenor and plays the baritone in quite a unique way. Being two albums from (Blue Serge) and (Boston Blow Up) this CD represents great value and enjoyment. The first album on the CD is Blue Serge and features a quartet, the other a /5(11).
